Tech Note: low-security.dartware.com certificate

Q: I get a warning about a problem with my SSL certificate - it's for "low-security.dartware.com" What does this mean?

A: InterMapper defaults to using SSL to encrypt the communications between InterMapper and RemoteAccess. To do this, Dartware includes a Dartware-generated SSL certificate (from "low-security.dartware.com") with every copy of InterMapper. Because it's the same certificate for all customers, it is not secure. However, this certificate trivially encrypts the traffic, making the communications safe from casual snooping.

If you wish to have a more secure certificate, you can install your own self-signed certificate, or purchase a certificate from a Certificate Authority such as http://instantssl.com, http://verisign.com, or http://thawte.com
